Dick Stettler Obit

Richard William Stettler, 76, of Argos, IN, passed away on Monday, September 11, 2023 in Memorial Hospital of South Bend, IN. 

Richard was born to Earl and Jannie (Perry) Stettler on May 30, 1947 in Plymouth, IN. He graduated from West High School in Plymouth in 1965. He married Karen Triplet on September 11, 1976 and they have celebrated 47 years of marriage. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War from August 9, 1966 until August 8, 1968. He worked in maintenance at DelMonte Foods of Plymouth, IN until retiring in 2002. He wintered for six months in Sebring, Fl, was a member of Highland Road Runners, Whispering Pines Baptist Church, and a three-wheel bicycle ride while in Sebring. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, riding bicycles all over the country, running in the Blueberry Stomp, hunting, camping, cooking, and searching for the perfect tenderloin. He was always known as a “Jokester” and loved making people laugh. 

Richard will be dearly missed by his loving wife, Karen Stettler; his father, Earl Stettler of Plymouth, IN; his daughter: Jennifer Stettler Russell and her husband Todd of Fishers, IN; his sons: Bruce Sherman of Slidell, LA; Michael and Stacy Sherman of Culver, IN; his grandchildren: Alexander Russell; Olivia Russell; Samuel Russell; Jacob Sherman; Erin Sherman; Halie and Josh Foor; Gabriel Sherman; Gracey Sherman; Genna Sherman; Ginette Sherman; his ten great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and his brother, Norman and ValnaStettler of Plymouth, IN. 

Richard is preceded in death by his mother, Jannie Stettler. 

Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 17, 2023 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Deaton-Clemens Van Gilder Funeral Home (300 W. Madison St., Plymouth, IN 46563). 

Funeral Service will follow at 4:00 p.m. with Andrew Wilson officiating. 

Graveside services will be held on Monday, September 18, 2023at 10:00 a.m. in Maple Grove Cemetery (Argos, IN) with Military Honors. 

Memorial donations may be made to Heart to Heart Hospice (620 W. Edison St. 122, Mishawaka, IN 46545) in Richard’s name.
